From Collins Pocket Reference 'Whisky' : This distillery was built between 1892 and 1894 by Mackinlay and Birnie who were later to own the neighbouring Glen Albyn Distillery;John Birnie had previously managed Glen Albyn.Glen Mhor used the same water (from Loch Ness) and peat as its neighbour, but their whiskies were quite different. It was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to introduce mechanical malting in the late 1940's.It was also one of the Scottish Malt Distillers closed down by the Distillers Company Ltd. in 1983,and was demolished in 1988. Comment : Smooth and medium bodied Glen Mhor has a plesant, subtle sweetness complemented by a dryish, heatery aftertaste.
