More Info: The Grumguish (Drum-yewish) uses ex-sherry hogsheads. The distillery have 1 wash still and a spirit still. From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems : Drumguish comes from the new Speyside distillery, built opposite the former distillery of the same name (1895-1911) on land purchased by owners, the Christie family, in 1956 together with stretches of the Spey and Tromie rivers. In the previous year they had formed the Speyside Distillery & Bonding Co. The driving force behind the company, whisky blender George Christie, gradually built the new distillery, starting in 1962 and finally completing the work in 1987. The first spirit ran from the distillery's two stills on 12 December, 1990. The distillery is said to have a maximum capacity of 200,000 gallons a year, although it is planned to just produce 50,000 to 100,000 a year, all of which is intended for the company's own use. The company produces a blended whisky called Speyside and a vatted malt, Glentromie. The first of the new single malt takes its name, Drumguish, from that of its precise location. George Christie lives in the house previously owned by G. McPherson Grant who, as well as building the original Speyside distillery, also built Tomatin and Newtonmore. Only Tomatin of this original trio still exists. The distillery is located on the banks of the River Tromie at its confluence with the River Spey. A spring on the neighbouring Gaick Deer estate supplies water.
