This whisky is one of the few remaining independent family-owned and family-controlled companiesleft in the Scotch whisky trade.

From the book 'The Scottish Collection' - classic malts by Carol P. Shaw:
Founded in 1893 in Leith by Roderick Macdonald and Alexander Muir, Macdonald and Muir Ltd. is one of the few remaning independent family-owned and -controlled companies left in the Scotch whisky trade.
'The Bailie' or 'BNJ' as it is also known, is named after the fictional magistrate in Walter Scott's Rob Roy. Although a popular brand in the early years of this century (particularly in military circles), in recent years production had been severely limited. However, the brand was relaunched in October 1994 and production stepped up following a change in the blend receipe.

I was also named for the Baillie. My father was born in Port Galscow, and I was born in Victoria, B.C., Canada. It would be a Treat to recieve a bottle with my name on it, in time for my fiftieth Birthday. (January/09) Cheers!
